Zoetermeer is a municipality in the province of South Holland in the Netherlands. The municipality of Zoetermeer has over 124 thousand inhabitants. Through marketing and communication agency Roos & van de Werk, we were asked to participate in this project.
Product
The area around the Afrikaweg is currently not an attractive residential area and is also struggling with many vacant office buildings. The municipality of Zoetermeer plans to do something about this in the coming years. With this plan (called Entree), they want to make this a lively urban district with homes, shops and offices.
The goal
The infrastructure plan had been drawn up and almost worked out by the municipality, but the final details of the buildings were not ready yet. Our task was to provide a vision for the future in the form of an animation.
Our solution
The storyline of the animation is split into two parts. The first part shows the structure of the infrastructure, the greenery and the buildings. In the second part, we give an impression of the atmosphere of the environment that the users will receive. Here we go through a day from morning to evening. In the second part of the animation, we show life in the city district. We placed the future users in the form of miniature characters in the scenes. To show the experience, we animated some of the characters present in the animation. This gives the viewer a better sense of the vibrancy of the district.
process
When we started developing the animation, we had relatively little visual input available. We started with a 2D overview drawing showing the most current implementation of the plan at that time. We also had a rough mockup of the buildings in the form of a 3D model that we used as a guide to determine the content of the buildings. We based this interpretation on various documents with studies from various parties.
outcomes
The video was used internally by the municipality as a presentation tool in various phases. Later, the video became part of the Entree homepage with a public function. The content was also included in an article in the Algemeen Dagblad.
